Gritty Not Grimy is a community-led beautification campaign from BFF Green Team, the Benson Business Improvement District, the Benson Neighborhood Association, and Benson Businesses. BFF Green Team
The BFF Green Team is the community-powered engine behind this work. Made up of volunteers, artists, students, and neighborhood partners, the Green Team leads regular cleanups, community-driven public art initiatives, beautification efforts, and small-scale infrastructure improvements throughout the district. These initiatives reduce litter, improve walkability, activate underused spaces, and create visible signals of shared care and investment in the neighborhood.
Green Team projects often serve as testing grounds for larger creative placemaking ideas, from signage and wayfinding to gardens, murals, and alley activations. The work is intentionally collaborative and responsive, shaped by neighborhood needs and informed by on-the-ground participation.
