Asking For It
curated by Beatriz Rodriguez and Carolyn Albracht
Opening March 6th 6-10PM
Radial Arts Center 5915 Maple St.
Asking For It is a curated group exhibition exploring internalized misogyny and patriarchy through the voices of contemporary artists.
As professors in a small art department working closely with young people, many of whom are women, the curators have witnessed the subtle yet pervasive ways internalized misogyny surfaces in everyday life. This exhibition emerges from that reckoning.
Through painting, printmaking, collage, and mixed media, participating artists examine personal experience, cultural conditioning, gendered expectations, and the power structures that shape identity and perception. As artists and educators who have navigated their own experiences as women socialized within a patriarchal system, the curators aim to foster awareness, dialogue, and reflection. The exhibition invites viewers to consider how these systems operate both externally and internally.
